Endpapers?

I was thinking about using this collection of vintage photobooth images I put together to bookend my content. I think it might interesting. Does it work?

It's so funny, Gen, that you suggested that I check out Herb Lubalin's work - I was setting my headlines in Avant Garde (which I don't think I've ever actually used before) and then found your comment about checking out Lubalin's work. Weird.

Anyway, here it is. I know I will get criticism for the rule, but I wanted to give it a try. What if I only use it on my opening spreads? Would that be too inconsistent? Some other worries:

• Not sure about where I want to tuck that byline.
• Are the pull quotes too much?
  
• What about the drop caps within the article?

Some potential covers. The first is the original image, but I'm playing with the idea of cropping it into a closeup... maybe something that verges on abstraction.

I sort of like how weird the last image is out of context, but that it's still sort of obviously an old man. I was thinking I could wrap this image around to the back cover. Might also use that idea on the guy's face.
